Love Tilly Devine
Editorial
Tilly Devine was an infamous underground figure in Sydney’s crime scene in the 1920’s. She was a hard and fast madam known for her temper, but also her vivaciousness and generosity. Love, Tilly Devine thankfully pays homage to her better qualities.
Set in a former cellar, this cosy bar is pleasing the locals to no end. Early evenings see people squeezing in to sample some of the excellent wine and nibble on the wonderful bar food too. And this is the only problem at Love, Tilly Devine – you will be squeezing in. This is a tiny place. Tables and chairs are in such close proximity that you may as well break the ice and introduce yourself to your neighbours, as you sure as hell won’t be having a private conversation here. That said, the dark walls and warm atmosphere certainly makes for an intimate setting.
The real reason you are here is to imbibe. The wine list is one of the best in Sydney and absolutely urges you to step outside your comfort zone. With over 300 wines to choose from don’t be shy. Apart from their impressive selection of international wines there is also a healthy and exquisite selection of Australian wines.
The food is also a must. The small, but good menu includes giant octopus slow roasted in natural wine and crostini with broad beans, mint and organic ricotta.
