Eau-de-Vie

Settle into Eau-de-Vie to enjoy their long list of cocktails, premium wines and top-shelf spirits.

Editorial

The Darlinghurst bar strip hasn't generated this much gushing since, well, possibly since the bar located in the new Eau-de-Vie site went under. Oh, it's a wonderful find. And fortunately for the ones in the know, those who don't will find it almost impossible to find. Located out the back of the Kirketon Hotel, Eau-de-Vie offers itself as a reassuring testament to the upper echelons of Sydney's lushes.

The single room occupied by the bar is small and dimly lit. It's neo-boudoir at its best, and has come at just the right time for Sydney drinkers wanting to spend, spend, spend. Eau-de-Vie is beautifully luxurious and if there weren't so many gal-friendly cocktails on the list it could easily pull off being a gentleman's lounge. Interiors aside though, the drinking is second to none. Cocktails are classic but are orchestrated with the ingenuity of an architect. Sound over the top? Well, maybe. But they're very, very good. Plus, if you don't like the sound of a Dark'n'Stormy with homemade ginger beer, or can't stomach the thought of a margarita with agave syrup, then you can hit up the affable bar staff for something a bit more experimental.

Eau-de-Vie is a sophisticated spot for a sophisticated chat. Don't come here if you're out for a bender, and definitely not if you're on the way home from one. This bar is for lovers, and lovers of fine alcohol only.

A long time coming - Sydney's best bar at the moment. The bartenders make the effort to acknowledge all who make it through their door wherever possible and are keen to have an idea of your personal tastes and palate. Once their patient wait for you to decide on your poison is over, the drinks come quickly and with flair. Tasty drinks menu and great vibes in this intimately comfy space. A welcome addition to Sydney's still very immature boutique bar scene.

I couldn't disagree more. So overpriced and so pretentious. I grew up in Sydney but have recently moved to Melbourne and every bar here has better cocktails at half the price and the staff are twice as friendly. Bar staff could not have been more unfriendly in every aspect (even when i asked where the toilets were). THumbs down for me.
