Cafe Sel Et Poivre
Editorial
Cafe Sel et Poivre fills up early as locals jostle for banquette seating at breakfast. The eggs are free range, the bacon crisp, and the baguettes and croissants make for good value snacking. At lunch, the kitchen serves up some of the best escargot and braised beef cheeks in town. The hearty bistro fare continues on into dinner, where the entree of pork and duck rillettes and main course of seared veal liver with French shallot sauce and frites are popular options.

The food was delicious, the menu was extensive and the French waiter was charming. It made up for the exorbitant prices, tiny portions and mixed success of the chef. My sirloin steak was divine (but expensive for what it was). My partner's meal was substantially worse- lamb was not up to scratch for how much it cost. Don't improve the food or the staff- they were delightful - but the prices need to be more in line with Darlinghurst's competitive standards.
