Brown Sugar makes a forty minute queue well worth it down on Bondi Beach

Editorial

Brown Sugar, tucked just off the main Bondi strip on Curlewis Street, is one of those Sunday religions for Sydneysiders. As such, you can expect to queue before getting a table. That's all good though, it's practically my barometer of a good café: the time in queue per punter = awesome food and coffee. Of course, if it happens to be one of those perfect summer's day down by the beach, then all the better. You can top up your tan while you wait.

And the wait is worth it, let me tell you. All these trendy young hipsters aren't here just to see and be seen. Well, they might be, but the goods back up the crowds. Sibling owners Neil and Lianne Gotthheiner make an awesome coffee on their San Marco for one thing, using Sydney hero Single Origin's house blend. Every time I breakfast here, both my latte and after meal espresso are tip top.

The food is absolutely scrumptious too. As oddly new age hippy as it might sound, the scrambled tofu with avocado, field mushrooms and rocket is out of this world, as are the poached eggs with salmon, dill and ricotta. The cafe also transforms into a restaurant/bar in the evening, opening Tuesday to Sunday from 6:30pm, so you could conceivably pass the day in here. Just be sure and book in advance.

Note the coffee made on the weekends by an awesomely grumpy yet gorgeously passionate barista is worth any wait!
