Brave Cafe
Editorial
Buzzing with locals in the backstreets of Bondi Beach, Brave Cafe is a colourful hodgepodge of paintings, posters and people. Vibrant murals choke the walls as ambient music plays and coffee flows non-stop from the red beast of a machine. Groups fill the wooden tables, solo sippers focus on their laptops, and the staff - well, they don't appear to focus too closely on customer service. It's fortunate the food and coffee on offer are delicious enough to win over the locals.
The kitchen's organic food philosophy is reflected in the mod Oz menu, with gluten-free offerings and delicious fair trade coffee available. Choose from a varied assortment of sandwiches and burgers, or twirl into a bowl of linguine with king prawns, calamari, chilli, tomato and rocket. The gnocchi with tomato, mushrooms and herbs, the creamy chicken salad with grilled vegetables, salad and croutons, and the pasta of the day are all popular repasts, or simply pop in for a coffee and a slice of Brave's famous flourless chocolate cake. Icy frappes and juices make for a cool change on a sweltering summer's day; just make sure you're also prepared for the cool service.
