Monkey Bar
Editorial
Monkey Bar seems to offer what most of Balmain's bars don't: Good times without the hassle of looking cool. It's a simple formula, but one that seems to go sadly amiss among Balmain's watering holes. At Monkey Bar you get what they've got on their posters - a DJ on Fridays, trivia on Thursdays and cheap drinks during happy hour. No questions asked.
It's also not a bad spot for some good, old-fashioned people watching. The street-side sitting area is the perfect spot to indulge your inner voyeur, where you can sit back and watch the natives in their natural habitat, eating and drinking their way through Balmain's Mecca, Darling Street.
One thing to keep an eye out for, though, are the door staff after 9pm. Monkey Bar may be a local favourite, but they do like to keep things nice as the evening edges into the wee hours. So put on your closed toe shoes and your best locally designed t-shirt and head to Monkey Bar for a glimpse of the action and a tequila sunrise.
