Learn all there is to know about Bordeaux blends when Lerida Estate hosts a hands-on masterclass about this master varietal.

Editorial

You have to admit, the French have got it pretty right when it comes to wine. The region of Bordeaux is every wine lover's mekka. This is where fantastic red wine is born. So how do the French do it? What makes their wine so splendidly superior? If you'd like the answer to that question - or rather if you'd like to learn a bit about the wine that comes from Bordeaux - head along to Lerida Estate on Saturday, 14 August, for a “Bordeaux blends” masterclass.

Taking wine enthusiasts though the intricacies of getting it right will be Jim Lumbers (proprietor of Lerida) and Malcolm Burdett (resident winemaker). The two gentlemen will teach you how to make and blend wine using Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes to give you a little taste of what Bordeaux is all about. It's also worthwhile to mention that while the winery is a few thousand kilometres away from its French cousins, it won the 2008 trophy for best Bordeaux style wine. This means you will be in capable hands as you explore some of the variety's history, learn how it is cultivated and how to make and prepare it.

As part of the class you will also get to craft your own style of wine from barrels ageing in the Lerida Estate barrel room and then taste it against some international wines. And since it is winter and a little chilly, you'll also be treated to canapes, gluhwein, hot chocolate and tea or coffee served in front of a blazing fire
