Offering more than just a look at a working vineyard and a taste of a few wines, this hub of Canberra wine culture also does a good lunch, art exhibitions and viticultural education.

Editorial

Opened in September 2000, this very modern temple to all things wine helped put the Canberra district wine region on the map. Less than 10 minutes' drive from Canberra CBD, it's a brilliant starting point for a tour of the region's wineries, offering a wealth of information about the district and its wines. The complex consists of a sprawling vineyard, a cellar door with a wine tasting hall, the Kamberra Glass Art Gallery, Meeting Place Winery Restaurant and the Federation Function Centre. Set on seven acres of landscaped gardens and waterways, it's an exceedingly pleasant spot to spend a couple of hours.

Anyone looking to further their viticultural knowledge should pay the cellar door a visit. The huge hall is fitted out with educational tasting displays, an exhibit of historical wine equipment, and a regional interpretation area with displays depicting the winemakers and the region's history and geography. A guided tour of the complex will also take you to the underground cellar, which houses more than 120 barrels of various sizes, shapes and origins. Don't miss the Kamberra Glass Art Gallery either. Aimed at creating cultural links between wine and art, it displays fine artwork from Australia's leading glass artists. Relax in the Meeting Place restaurant afterwards and sample some of Canberra's local produce matched with Kamberra wines.
