SukoThai restaurant in Yarralumla is an Inner South institution and a firm favourite of many families and fans of Thai cuisine.

Editorial

SukoThai restaurant in Yarraulumla has been in business for almost 20 years, but has really flourished over the past few years under the guidance of new owners. Despite appearing as though it has been crammed behind the post office, the restaurant is actually airy and spacious thanks greatly to high ceilings and tasteful, understated decorations. What is of most importance though, is the food. The range of dishes and their authenticity is one of the draw cards of SukoThai. If you’re a seafood fan try the goong nang far or “angel prawns” (king prawns with herbs and a creamy curry paste). Fish lovers will also find many good choices, such as the highly recommended bla neung ma-now (steamed whole fish served with soy sauce, herbs and fresh lime).

If you’re more into meat, don’t worry; the available meat options are just as tempting. Personal recommendations include the indulgent roast duck curry. Although an interesting dish of “sizzling kangaroo” – which is perhaps the ultimate fusion of Australian and Thai cuisine – is likely to please even the most skeptical of diners. Vegetarian diners haven’t been forgotten either and even have an entirely vegetarian banquet option at their disposal. Aside from great food, SukoThai also has one of the best take-away lunch deals in town – a choice of curry and rice for $8.50. For lunchers with more time, the dine-in lunch menu is equally good value. SudoThai also offers catering and its space to the needs of nearby embassies, government departments and other businesses located in the Inner South. Last but not least, in addition to the many delicious Thai dishes on offer, home-style Burmese dishes are available upon prior request.
