With all the talk of politics and our changing government, it's good to know that some things never change - like Socialism and booze. Encompassing more of the latter than the former we have Das Kapital, a quiet slice of the Motherland right in our nation's capital - hence, the name. Stylish design meets comfortable furniture (a sometimes rarity with modern design) with just a hint of luxury to make for a very inviting setting.
One of the main attractions at Das Kapital is the eclectic collection of live music and DJs. From jazz to rock to folky kinda stuff, most nights you'll find a host of regulars settling in for their fix of quality sounds presented by local and interstate artists. And with the cocktails flowing - a pretty much standard list of classics with a few house specialties - the music pumping and happy hour working its magic, what you intended as a quick drink may soon turn into a night-long journey into madness - in a good way.
The menu changes with the seasons and, naturally, compliments the wine list - a collection of Australian and New Zealand drops - and vice versa. Sitting back on a summer's day and watching the passersby on the pavement has never looked more enticing, although it can get a little rowdy of a night time. Of course, you could always jump on one of the many net terminals and look up a date to meet you there.
