Tilley's Devine Cafe Gallery should be a compulsory first port of call for people who are visiting Canberra for the first time. Central, yet out of the way, competely Canberra and yet so different to aything else on offer, the place seems guaranteed to imbue our fair city with a positive vibe that will hopefully linger with newcomers for the rest of their visit.

Editorial

For the love of coffee, music, food and art - since 1984 Tilley's has been a Canberra institution. Famously allowing males only by invitation in its first two years, and the first outdoor licensed venue in Australia, Tilley's offers a truly unique experience, whether you're there to take in a show, enjoy a fabulous breakfast or to just sit back and enjoy the scenery. Step inside and you'll be surrounded by luxurious dark woods and seductive lighting, inviting you to take a seat in one of the cosy booths. Although it's always busy, Tilley's still maintains that aura of timelessness that makes it such a favourite with locals and musicians alike.

The food is modern Australian - old favourites with a twist and a lot of love. The tempeh burgers are delicious, or try the ultimate litmus test of a cafe's food - the caesar salad (it's Devine!). Breakfast is done exceedingly well with generous servings and mouth-watering sides. The bar is well stocked but expensive, and the coffee is delicious but a little steep at $3.80 for a latte. And although the lack of table service adds to the intimacy, be prepared to wade through large crowds to get your order in. However, there's no denying that Tilley's is a place you could happily spend an entire day at and never be disappointed or bored.
