Taj Agra Indian Restaurant

This North Indian restaurant offers all the traditional favourites, as well as some Pakistani specialities, with plenty of vegetarian options.

Editorial

Combining North Indian and Pakistani cuisine, this family-run restaurant claims to be the “Tandoori Specialists”. With a prime position in the Dickson restaurant district, Taj Agra gets good custom, but the recent renovation seems to have swallowed up the pleasant atmosphere, with its half painted walls and very open dining area. While the decor leaves much to be desired, the waiters are knowledgeable and friendly (although sometimes frazzled) and their suggestions are well worth trying.

Sharing is one of the best ways to enjoy Indian food, so try a banquet for under $30 and get a range of house specialities and several generous courses. The chef's favourite, Bandi Gosht is mouth-watering and the smoky daal is an excellent and unusual side. With a range of vegetarian options, there's something for everyone - try the paneer curries for a different experience or choose from the more familiar dishes, like Palak Aloo (spinach and potatoes). For dessert, don't go past the Gulab Jamun (deep fried paneer in syrup) with ice cream - it's amazing! Since the wine list is less than reasonable opt for BYO or a crisp Kingfisher beer as a refreshing complement to what can be a very rich meal. While a little rough around the edges, Taj Agra's food will put a smile on your face.
