Tosolini's

places|act|city|tosolini's
This eatery serves a huge range of Italian nibbles. Diners can pop in at any time of the day for an espresso, a Roman-style pizza square or Mama Tosolini's tiramisu.

Editorial

From the moment you step inside or relax in the leafy outdoor area, you're well aware that this is a successful family-run restaurant in the true Italian tradition. With Carlo Tosolini greeting every customer like an old friend, he can't help but put a smile on your face even before the garlic bread comes wafting around the corner. Despite its unfortunate proximity to the bus interchange, it's also right across the road from the Canberra Playhouse and is ideal for an informal pre-theatre meal. With a renowned tiramisu made by Mama Tosolini herself and fabulous cosmopolitans, you may never want to leave.

The menu specialises in the true Italian favourites like Roman-style pizza and bruschetta. With to-die-for home-made gnocchi, I feel sorry for followers of the Atkin's diet. The stuffed zucchini flowers are a delicious starter, but steer away from the frittatas. Try the risotto di pollo with marinated chicken, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes or the involtini di vitello, composed of slices of veal rolled with prosciutto, provolone and asparagus in a herb butter sauce with mashed potato. Tosolini's isn't breaking any rules or redefining Italian cuisine, but the traditional fare it offers at reasonable prices makes it well worth a visit. Don't forget to try the tiramisu!
