Editorial

Located at Yarralumla shops, this Pide House is a popular lunch spot for local office workers. The restaurant does takeaway but also offers indoor and outdoor seating. Inside Turkish music makes your toes tap absently, and flags, photos, shisha’s and other paraphernalia add a touch of novelty. The restaurant is vegetarian friendly, and all food (including the bread) is made in-house, ensuring halal standards are met. The Pide House provides a catering service and is available for functions, but be aware that no alcohol is allowed on the premises.

The menu is divided into hot and cold entrees, pide, mains and desserts. Kabak is a popular entree consisting of fried zucchini balls with yoghurt sauce. Pide come with a choice of 12 toppings, and are priced between $13 and $15. Mains costs around the same, with options like pirzola (grilled lamb cutlets marinated in herbs) and kofte (meatballs in garlic sauce) popular choices. Banquets are available to eat in or takeaway at $20 a head, and include a selection of dips, kabak, falafel, salad, rice, lamb and chicken kebabs, and mixed pide. For dessert try the Turkish coffee with a selection of homemade sweets such as baklava, bulbul yuvasi and Turkish delight.
