Inbargo
Editorial
Unless you adore the gleam of name-tags and the nervous click of Blackberry, you are unlikely to be a local habitué of this bar. Located inside the Rydges' Hotel, this is a place to serve the needs of those who are lodged above.
The thing is, this bar does that quite well. Staff are not at all the resentful little sots a business traveller might come to dread in drinking; these folks will actually make your drink to order.
Some attempts have been made to lure a local clientele. Friday nights feature a Latin theme. Music from DJ Mario “Brujo” Gordon encourages you to dance. And, if this doesn't make you salsa, the Happy Hour from 5 until 7 almost certainly will.
At other times, though, this is a business haunt. The bar, which features a pleasant terrace for use in Canberra's warmest months, is quiet. Then, all of a sudden, when conferences disgorge their delegates, it is full with people wishing to erase, or enhance, the business memories of the day.
Inbargo, the name possibly an awkward nod to the Trade and Commerce officials of the nearby parliamentary triangle, offers efficient service and a fairly comprehensive range of ales and wines to punters.
