Asian Cafe

places|act|canberra|asian%20cafe
The quirky and unassuming Asian Cafe restaurant in Canberra’s Civic serves up food from across Asia with speedy service and a smile.

Editorial

Tucked away in a long strip of competitors, Asian Cafe is surprisingly large inside, where the delicious pastel paint job extends into the privacy of the back courtyard. Asian Cafe regularly hosts work lunches, so be wary when booking - it's hardly the place for peace and quiet when over 100 hungry office workers are munching on their lunches. However, the courtyard is a bit more secluded (thanks to the artfully placed pot plants and some bamboo fencing) and is perfect for dinner on lazy summer evenings. And - to sweeten the deal - all the food at Asian Cafe is very competitively priced.

While not quite as pan-Asian as you'd expect, Asian Cafe does a masterful job of serving up generous quantities of predominantly Malaysian and Chinese dishes. As with most similar restaurants, the menu is extensive and full of choice. For the hard-to-please, pick one of the many banquets to sample a little bit of everything. All the favourites are there; spring rolls, sweet and sour pork, honey chicken, short soup, sate, prawn laksa, beef rending - you name it, Asian Cafe's got it! Come in and sit down, or just grab some takeaway. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

This is our favourite Asian destination. Dennis and his team has been there for well over the seven years we have dined there... which is testimony enough in Canberra's fickle market.
