In days of yore Canberrians would have to 'eff off' up to Sydney to see their favourite international acts but now with AIS Arena, they are pulling in world famous acts such as Pink and Lady Gaga, who recently brought their mega shows to the arena officially putting Canberra on the international music map. Even the Wiggles have played here - which in three year younglings eyes is the ultimate street cred.
Officially known as Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) Arena, it is a huge open-air stadium seating 5200, but you still get some form of intimacy that bigger arenas don't offer. But it's not just concerts, the AIS Arena is also the host of major sporting events such as basketball, netball and ice skating, ice shows, circuses, tradeshows, exhibitions and raves. Yes, raves complete with costumes, fluoros, glow sticks, and crazy dancing. The Warehouse Festival, which featured The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77, turned the Arena into a full-scale, full-on mentalist dance party.
Now that's versatile.
