When the Pot Belly first opened its doors in Canberra back in 1977, Malcolm Fraser was PM and Sir John Kerr was still the GG.

Editorial

33 years on, this humble little venue sandwiched between a tyre shop and a gamers store, is still going strong attracting a diverse crowd; tradies, students, musos, academics, public servants, even the odd pollie drops in for a pint of Coopers in suburban Belconnen.

But what has always been a drawcard is the live music from Wednesday to Saturday. The Pot Belly is a veteran supporter of the local music scene, including hosting Canberra's Battle of the Bands. Expect to see a great covers or original bands, covering the spectrum of music from rock, folk, indie, even hard core. The rest of the week is filled with trivia nights and open mics.

This place offers up all the staples you'd expect: a range of beers, a kitchen menu that includes classic burgers, steaks and salads and a tapas menu into the evening and there is a wine list, in case the Champagne Charlie's drop by.

Did you actually go to the Pot Belly Gregory? The Pot also has Coopers and Bulmers on tap. In the fridge there are a large range of premium and standard stubbies. The range of spirits and liquors is as large as any well stocked bar(more range than most clubs in the region), and if you ask nicely I'm sure the bar staff will attempt a cocktail (Well maybe). Also the Pot Belly has barely been renovated since it opened in the seventies, a few improvents or changes here and there, but it's basically been the same way for over 30 years. Don't pay much attention to this review people. Come to the pot, bring a good attitude and I garantee you'll love it. :)

I went there about 3 months back. Coopers ontap had run out, so I got a stubbie. $7.00! The guy behind the bar was surprised at the price too. Haven't been back. Tired of being ripped-off by Canberra venues. The Wig & Pen can go %$#@ themselves as well with their absurd prices...best beer on tap in Australia no question, but not worth $8.80 a pint.
