Bench and Bar at the High Court, ACT Rugby Union Club
Editorial
From the moment you set eyes on the ACT Rugby Union Club, also simply known as the RUC, you will be immediately impressed by its relaxed but sophisticated design, and welcoming atmosphere. Over the course of the last half-century, the RUC has honed and refined its recipe for combining a sports club base with excellent food and drink, all at an excellent price. This has lead to its recent title of Canberra's home of rugby for 2011 (Rugby Union World Cup year), as well as its continuing and unwavering association with Union in the ACT.
As intertwined as the RUC is with rugby union, it is undeniable that its appeal stretches far beyond just union fans. On any given workday, the bar is full of people who have come for the quality of bistro food, coffee and drinks available. It's locally known fact that it is the best place to get a great early-morning coffee, or pick up a generously sized lunch. The ample outdoor seating makes it an ideal spot for after-work drinks and the dinner specials for members - some of which cost less than $10.
Not surprisingly, the venue has won numerous accolades. It was awarded the title of Best Club Bistro 2010 for the Hereford Prime Char Grill which serves a range of Hereford Prime steaks. In addition, thanks to its continuing success, March 2011 will see the completion of a private function room that will accommodate up to 100 guests and herald the start of a new era in the RUC's illustrious history.
