Urban Food Store and Café
Editorial
Urban Food Store and Café inspires a healthy dining experience both inside its doors and out. Guests can enjoy a soy latte and a lentil burger before browsing the aisles to find all their boutique health-food ingredients.
Surrounded by Acton's new luxury apartments and office blocks, this area has quickly become a space of innovative and interesting dining. Set on the corner of Marcus Clarke and Edinburgh Streets, the space is modern with sleek, industrial-themed décor and its name branded across the glossy window in eye-catching, contemporary style. Urban Food Store and Café is touted as Canberra's only organic café and wholefoods store, with its urban chic fashion making it a far cry from outdated hippy stereotypes.
The boutique groceries that are displayed in one section inspire healthy foodies, while the café area offers tasty, organic foods to be enjoyed while lounging with friends or a good book. The café attracts a wide variety of customers. During the week, students sit reading through uni books as crumbs from their vegetarian sandwiches fall over the pages while office workers hold casual coffee meetings. Runners come in for a healthy granola breakfast and the local residents enjoy a hearty, guilt-free lunch.
On spirited Saturdays guests arrive bright eyed for breakfast while late Sunday-morning risers come for a late brunch to enjoy in the space that is filled with natural light and calming energy.

C'mon - 25 mins to make 2 burgers - seriously?? The one person who had their meal was almost finished when the two others came out. So much for eating lunch TOGETHER!! I queried the notion that we may have all wanted to eat together as is the usual custom in a cafe however was told the first meal was a pre-prepared sandwich from the display cabinet - now wouldn't it have been common sense to hold that first one until they were ALL ready and sent out together ? The burger - well where can I start - over cooked lamb patty, no flavours, no seasoning and not made with any sort of love at all.....and here is the kicker - $18.90.... What a joke.... Poor service , crappy food and clearly a business with staff that are simply going through the motions and not working with any sort of enthusiasm for what they are doing..... I WON'T BE BACK !!!!!!
