Melbourne Lanna Thai

The decor is surprisingly swish, with gilded mirrors, linen and bamboo-patterned brass cutlery. The menu features many Thai favourites and a few more exotic-sounding dishes, with plenty of vegetarian options.

Miss Chu

297 Exhibition St (between Lonsdale and La Trobe), Melbourne

-37.8090396 144.9688683

This groovy little café is pleasing CBD pho lovers. Oh, and it’s thrilling dumpling, rice paper roll and duck pancake lovers too. It’s cheap as chips with the most expensive dish being the fish of the day at $15. It’s great for a quick snack, a great value lunch and a pre or post theatre supper. They also offer catering.

The League of Honest Coffee

8 Exploration Lane, Melbourne

-37.8091058 144.9686337

The coffee wars have been well underway for some time in Melbourne, so you better be confident if you are declaring such a claim about your coffee. Considering the credentials behind the League of Honest Coffee, it’s best to believe them. Owner Marinus Jansen also has the Brunswick Coffee Project and South Melbourne Market’s Padre Café and you won’t find anyone more serious about coffee. It’s a stylish and modern fit-out, and while they concentrate on coffee you can also indulge in their glorious pastries. In a bid to encourage people to experiment with their coffee, the standard blend is changed every few days.
