The Attic
It’s true, Brunswick Street Fitzroy has been a place to avoid in recent years, not just because of the hordes of ‘tourists’ that ascend every weekend, but because the new wave of bars were more about crowd capacity than being a quality venue. Things are changing and with the arrival of The Attic it seems it is safe to go back in the water. Situated above Black Pearl, The Attic with its exposed beams, brown leather chairs and that magnificent window provide the place with a stylish club-like feel. It’s all about superbly made cocktails and, gasp, table service! Life is good.

Removed from the craziness of Smith Street, yet capturing its cool grungy edge just around the corner at the yet-to-get-there end of Johnston Street is a plainly decked out little bar that is aimed at the hip young kids on the block - the retro wallpaper gives the game away. Tiger and Monteiths Cider are offered on tap, along with Brazilian Nova Schin Pilsner by the bottle and Coopers Ales come in either stubbie or longneck varieties. The great thing about 99 Problems is that if you don’t want of their toasties to soak it all up, the famous Jim’s Greek Tavern is just across the road.
