Everywhere you look these days there’s a damn vampire, or at least someone reading a book about vampires or asking ‘Have you seen that movie about Vampires?’ Thanks to this vampy craze spawned by the Twilight obsession, we got to thinking about a really good vampire list. So, without further blood curdling delay, introducing Citysearch’s list of sexy vamps and why we love them!

Catherine Deneuve as Mirium – The Hunger (1983)

The beautiful and dangerously sexy bi vamp with a French accent Miriam, steamed up the screen with Susan Sarandon in the 1983 film, The Hunger, literally sucking the youth out of her lovers and in doing so, sucking youths into the cinemas. Some people say it also starred David Bowie but with all that vampy business going on, it’s not something people seem to recall about the movie

Kiefer Sutherland as David – The Lost Boys (1987)

As the head vampire in the '80s movie The Lost Boys, he may have sported a really, really bad blonde mullet but he was still pretty hot. This is your John Hughes vampire proto-type. Too bad he didn’t nail Molly Ringwald.

Robert Pattison as Edward Cullen – Twilight (2008)

You knew it was coming. He may only be 17 (well, technically 108) but this new vampire on the block and his combination of physical perfection and old-worldly charm has teens and full- grown women swooning everywhere. Blame for the current craze sits squarely on his shoulders.

SelmaHayek as Santanico Pandemonium - Dusk til Dawn (1996)

A bikini-clad Selma Hayek makes her entrance into the film by performing a hypnotic snake dance in a strip club. Um, do we really need to say anymore? Quentin Tarantino’s character went so far as to drink from her feet and suck on her toes. Confused? See the movie – (not that it really helps in the clarification stakes)

Wesley Snipes as Blade – Blade (1998)

Technically he’s a hybrid with “all the strengths of a vampire and none of their weaknesses” He could be the worst vamp in the whole of Transylvania for all we care because what’s really important is how good his killer bod looks in all that leather

Gary Oldman as Dracula - Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

Ok maybe not so sexy in the beginning when he’s an old man with a Bridget Bardot-style hairdo and long fingernails, but we’re talking when he’s young and dreamy complete with the blue eyes, accent, and the devotion to his beautiful Mina. Sigh.

Frank Langella as Dracula - Dracula (1979)

Ask your Mum about Frank and she’ll probably stare off into the distance and get all misty-eyed. Back in the '70s he sent many-a young lady’s pulse racing and we’re pretty sure plenty would’ve been quite happy to give up their life for just one night with him (followed by an eternity of nights, given how the undead fear sunlight and all that).

Kate Beckinsale as Selene – Underworld (2003)

She’s a vampire assassin not to be messed with and with killer moves, electric blue eyes and leather bodysuit (what is it about leather and vamps?). There’s also something about a woman who knows how to use a gun (see non-vampire Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2). We just have one word: hot.

Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Lac - Interview With a Vampire (1994)

Even with his face covered in rat blood and his complexion getting more and more pasty as the movie progresses, it makes absolutely no difference, he is still irresistible. Add that to the fact that he’s a gentleman who refuses to kill humans and lives for the happiness of a little girl and you’ve got the ladies hook, line and sinker.

Aaliyah as Queen Akasha - Queen of the Damned (2002)

Released around six months after her tragic death in a place crash, Aaliyah is effortlessly sexy in her role as Queen Akasha, the Queen of the Damned. The fact that she’s an awesome dancer is also apparent as she moves like liquid from one victim to another.

nice work on this - selma hayek rocked in dusk til dawn. here's my two-cents worth: twilight may be responsible for a wave of book sales (and follow-up movies) but that's about it. you can't credit some kind of 'vampire resurrection' to a teen-romance story (let's face it, vampires are barely in the story at all, and creatures of the undead -- which they are -- have, by definition, already been resurrected). further, vampires aren't like kylie minogue or madonna -- they don't need to 're-invent' themselves every couple of years. the truth is, vampires are always there, in the back of our minds, just around the corner, lurking in the shadows... just cos you can't always see them doesn't mean they're not there... in that way, vampires are similar to other creatures of the undead such as mummies, werewolves, and john farnham...
