The Lion King 3D
Editorial
With two so-so sequels and an all-conquering stage musical under its mane, Disney's The Lion King franchise has had longer legs than most since it first roared into cinemas in 1994. This 3D re-release will certainly do nothing to tarnish the original's lion-sized credentials. Watching Simba and friends in the third dimension doesn't necessarily add much depth to proceedings but the glorious, hand-drawn animation has never looked so vibrant. The voice work and characterisation is spot on, especially Nathan Lane as meerkat Timon. The songs by Elton John still swell with emotion, and the story — an ostracised lion cub must follow his destiny and reclaim his throne — still resonates. The Lion King 3D is being unleashed at cinemas for a limited time, so don't miss it.
