Everybody knows that summer in Australia means being outdoors, and for people who live in the city, that means going to the Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema! On a hot summer night it doesn’t get any better than grabbing a picnic and watching a flick under the stars with family and friends in beautiful natural surrounds right in the heart of the city.
Famous for its fantastic mix of classic, cult and new release movies, this year’s Moonlight Cinema program is set to impress. There’s an awesome lineup of movies to see including the long-awaited Nowhere Boy, the untold story of Beatles legend John Lennon. Plus James Cameron’s latest blockbuster, the mega-hyped Avatar, a CGI spectacular about humans who employ Avatars to evacuate peaceful aliens from their mineral-rich forests and featuring Australia’s own Sam Worthington
For the romantics out there, Valentine’s Day will see the premiere of New York, I Love You, a collection of stories about NYC from a celebrated collection of filmmakers and featuring an impressive all star cast.
There’s also plenty on offer for the kids with an advance preview screening of Fantastic Mr. Fox based on Roald Dahl‘s classic novel featuring the voices of George Clooney and Meryl Streep, as well as Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Up, G-Force and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Having a night out with the gals? Take some bubbly and settle in for some high-end fashion with The September Issue, Coco Avant Chanel and the all-time classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Also, don’t miss out on The Lovely Bones, an adaption of Alice Sebold’s novel and directed by the man with the golden touch, Peter Jackson, of about a girl who has been murdered and watches over her family and her killer from heaven.
Horror fans can freak themselves out with an outdoor screening of the eerie Paranormal Activity and for vampire lovers or die-hard Twilight fans, New Moon, the long-awaited sequel to Twilight, will run over two nights on Boxing Day weekend.
For the music lovers, dig in the groove with Mamma Mia, Michael Jackson’s: This Is It, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Fame and The Rocky Horror Picture Show and of course the season isn’t complete without the cult favourites like Monty Python’s Life of Brian, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Edward Scissorhands, Top Gun and a good ol’ dose of blue steel with Zoolander.
And if you're looking for the perfect outing for you and your dog, you'll be pleased to know that Moonlight’s ‘Dog Night’ is back by popular demand and you’re encouraged to bring you pooch for a special screening of the animation hit of 2009, Up.
So whether it’s a romantic night for two or a good excuse to catch up with your family or friends, there’s something for everyone and simply no better way to spend a summer evening.
