World Beard Day

events|world%20beard%20day
From bushrangers to bohemians, the beard breeds unabated.

Editorial

When: 4 September 2010
Where: The Governor Hindmarsh, 59 Port Rd, Hindmarsh
Tickets: Online or 1300 GET TIX (438 849); $12

Once, beards were the province of horrifying criminals and, of course, Jesus. Facial hair is solely for serial killers, bushrangers and messiahs no more. In a celebration of Mutton Chops, Handlebars, Goatees and any facial growth you care to cultivate or name, the folks of The Governor Hindmarsh pays homage to the rebirth of the beard.

Who'd have thunk that the US Civil War look would have returned in the 21st century? David Beckham, Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp are among those leading the stubble army toward hairy victory. Now, you can farm your own facial hair with a band of brothers both famous and unknown.

While minors may have trouble competiting with the flourishing Garibaldis of their elders, they are welcome to attend if accompanied by a guardian Over 18. Ladies, too, are very welcome. Particularly those who are beard admirers. And, if the damsels are feeling left out, complementary fake beards will be available for wear.

You and your beard may compete with the other chins of Adelaide for supremacy in a Beard Competition. You may discuss the Bearded Way, enjoy music by Bearded Artists and generally jut your hairy jowls about to prove, once and for all, that this will be a millennium of beards.

I'm sure Ty Allen would love to be there, but he'll be helping to tame the dogs up at Elizabeth on that day.
