Willow Bar
Editorial
The plethora of bars in Northcote now means that bar owners really need to know what they are doing, if they are going to survive. You need to know your clientele and you need to know what the locals are looking for. However, in the case of Northcote, the residents are a diverse lot so the area calls for a diverse range of bars.
Willow is one of the more off beat choices. While the others compete for the hipster market, Willow offers a non-pretentious vibe with a slant on comfort. Lots of wood creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere and those brown leather booths are dangerous. Nab one of these with a group of friends and I can guarantee this won’t be a one drink affair.
A stylish environment calls for a stylish drink. Cocktails are popular here and they do them well. Willow staff pride themselves on how they turn out traditional favourites such as the Manhattan or the martini.
Live music is doing well here as are their stand up comedy nights. In fact, depending on the week you may be in for a bit of burlesque or story telling as well.
The other draw card here is that while being able to order in pizza while drinking at a bar is no new thing, it’s a whole other thing when that pizza is from Meine Liebe. Gourmet pizza in a fine setting, what’s not to like?
