Wild Beasts Sideshows
Editorial
Wild Beasts were one of the surprise treats of the 2009 Laneway Festival. Now the indie foursome from England's Lake District, return to Australia for Splendour In The Grass 2011. Their third album, Smother, is just beginning to earn the critical praise that greeted their 2008 debut, Limbo, Panto and the Mercury Prize-nominated follow-up, Two Dancers. Wild Beasts' best asset is Hayden Thorpe's haunting falsetto voice, which soars and swoops somewhere between the purity of Thom Yorke and the drama of Antony Hegarty. Basically, they're refreshingly unlike any other band - which makes all those jangly, cookie-cutter Brit-indie acts seem decidedly tame.
