Paying tribute to a melancholic legend

Editorial

When depressive, reclusive English singer-songwriter Nick Drake died in 1974, aged just 26, he wasn’t well known – mainly because he hated performing live. It’s ironic that he’s inspired this all-star concert. But while Drake’s three albums have influenced generations of musicians, this show is special because it features Robert Kirby’s original orchestral arrangements, and Drake’s bassist Danny Thompson leading the house band. Legendary folk singer Vashti Bunyan – Drake’s contemporary – heads a vocal lineup including Scritti Politti frontman Green Gartside, veteran singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock, young international talents Lisa Hannigan, Krystle Warren and Scott Matthews, and Australians Shane Nicholson and the duo Luluc.
