Vs Macbeth

The question being asked about a new play from Sydney Theatre Company is not what could possibly go wrong; rather, what might actually go right?

When: 18 March - 3 April, 2010
Where: Wharf 2, Sydney Theatre Company, Walsh Bay, Sydney
Bookings: Sydney Theatre Company 02 9250 1777

The STC Residents have had their work cut out for them from the outset of rehearsals of the Next Stage production Vs Macbeth - along with everything else there's the added joy of having their accumulation of mistakes made over the rehearsal period included as part of the final show.

In a radical interpretation of Shakespeare's work intertwined with 400 years of general superstition surrounding the doomed text, Sam Haren directs STC's own ensemble in collaboration with The Border Project from Adelaide, using the chance disasters and mishaps happening in the present adaptation combined with theatrical no-no's that will have the audience in shock and probably stitches!

Will we ever get Shakespeare's version of doom and gloom right or is that an impossible task, magnified by the anxiety that Macbeth has always provoked? STC and its Adelaide partner have taken up the challenge and will expose their experience of the process for all to see.

Prepare yourself for adventure under ladders with appearances by a black cat, laced with smoke and mirrors. If you have reservations, just spare a thought for the cast…
