From the small stage of cabaret to the gasping of Edinburgh critics, this has been a busy half-decade for the gifted Tim Minchin. Known equally for his cynicism and his rather wonderful songs, the man has built a following who is not so much loyal as devout.

And, with good reason. He’s extraordinary in performance; a bit like Tom Lehrer written by Richard Dawkins. He can sing, he can write and now, apparently, he can conduct.

Minchin's use of the orchestra is impish and enormous fun. We'd all love to have our every whim punctuated by a big, orchestral stab. Minchin makes it happen.
