Based on the memoirs of the American essayist and novelist Joan Didion, it's the story of how, in a twelve-month period, her life changed completely, and how she coped. Her husband died suddenly from a heart attack, and her only daughter was hospitalised with a life-threatening illness. This dramatisation of her memoirs is candid and compassionate, and explores how Didion dealt with the grief and loss, through anger, bewilderment and beyond.
"Robyn Nevin is ideally cast as the meticulous, driven, inquisitive and doubting Didion. It is a skilful, mesmerising performance, not only of the "cool customer" demeanour but the soft, apprehensive touches that reveal the writer of imaginary people and plots has lost her way in the fog of memories or, "the vortex where they are strategically avoided"." Bryce Hallet, The Sydney Morning Herald.
