The Temper Trap: Conditions
Video
Editorial
The Temper Trap's debut album has been much anticipated in indie-rock circles. Following a string of acclaimed singles (Science of Fear and Sweet Disposition - watch Sweet Disposition video to your top right) and a prolonged recording stint in the UK, word started to filter round that this was going to be something special. That's what the kids on the internet were saying and the folks propping up the bars in beer-soaked, live-music venues. Well, turns out they were all correct; Conditions is a triumph.
Opening with the neo-soul-meets-indie rock of Love Lost, Conditions dives headlong into 10 tracks of lush guitar pop. While the aforementioned singles are present and accounted for, what this debut LP really proves is the band's early success was no flash in the pan. Their songwriting talent and musicianship is showcased again and again, and at only 10 tracks long, there's absolutely no filler - a welcome change for a debut indie release, considering many of their peers promise the world and deliver less than.
If you still need convincing, you may appreciate the fact Conditions was produced by one, Jim Abiss, whose previous credits include Arctic Monkeys and Massive Attack. Don't sleep on this.
