The Temper Trap
Editorial
The fresh-faced scamps in the Temper Trap camp had an arena-sized sound long before they were filling arenas, which makes their current success all the more justified. Having made huge headway in Europe from their current base of London, the Melbourne-formed quartet have also done quite well in the States, playing the blockbuster California festival Coachella this year. Now it's back to Australia for a sold-out tour that feels a lot like a victory lap in the wake of the platinum-selling debut album Conditions, still in the Top 20 here after an insane 45 weeks. A slot on this year's Coachella-worthy Splendour In The Grass lineup has also been secured.
What's the secret behind such world-conquering success? There's a few answers, really: epic swaths of U2-inspired guitar, frontman Dougie Mandagi's soulful singing, and a homegrown humbleness that flies in the face of how rock stars are supposed to behave. Then factor in an extraordinarily spacious sound and a universal hit single in Sweet Disposition, and it's as if the Temper Trap's dominance was nothing short of destined.
When the dust settles on this year, though, fans will be eager to see the band return to the studio for a follow-up record. And you can bet the second they learn each new tune, the fans will be singing right along.
