In this Australian premiere, award-winning US writer Cormac McCarthy (No Country For Old Men, All The Pretty Horses) presents us with another thought-provoking and compelling story about compassion, faith, and life.
There are only two characters, a black man and a white man in The Sunset Limited - a Novel in Dramatic Form. The white man has tried to end his life by throwing himself in front of a train; the black man has saved him. The pair sit down and discuss reasons for living, reasons for dying, reasons for saving another, and who is saving whom.
Inspired by real events, The Sunset Limited explores the unanswerable question: 'to be or not to be' - literally! First performed in Chicago in 2006, this is the Australian premiere of McCarthy's new play, and stars Mark Kilmurry and Patrick Williams. It is directed by Jennifer Don.
“From the opening lines, we know we're in the presence of a writer of great skill and depth. McCarthy is a master of one crucial aspect of stage writing: dialogue.” Time Out New York
“… a finely tuned dispute… The ideas presented offer so much 'food-for-thought' that you'll be discussing them long after seeing The Sunset Limited… This is mind expanding theatre at its best.” Chicagocritic.com
