The death of St Jerome's was an unholy spear in the side of Melbourne's laneway bar scene. I still mourn the loss of that dingy back alley that went off like Rio's carnivale, as you swigged from a longneck while crippling your poor bum on a milk crate. Apparently Jerome Borazio’s latest venture, The Resurrection, at the non-corny East Brunswick end of Lygon Street, isn't a literal rebirthing, though the name sure is confusing. It's a bit more fancy, there's a hell of a lot more room inside and out. As a new bar in its own right, it's pretty cool if a little unoriginal, but me and my bum can't help but hanker after those sadly departed and cruelly punishing crates.
