The Man in Black: The Johnny Cash Story
Editorial
When: 18 September 2010
Where: Palais Theatre
Tickets: Adult $55 - $65
Bookings: Ticketmaster 136-100
ARIA award winning rock guru Tex Perkins and his talented musical team bring their highly acclaimed show The Man in Black back for another spin in Melbourne.
A collaboration between director Tom Healy, producers Andrew Barker and Simon Myers and writer Jim McPherson, The Man in Black follows Cash's well known triumphs, struggles and above all, his relationship with June Carter. His road was rough and tough with a touch of romance, all reflected in his iconic music covering everything from rock'n'roll and hardcore American country to blues and gospel.
Perkins and the band play more than 24 of Cash's songs in a two hour marathon, delving into the depths of the star's life, love and loss. Whether it's A Boy Named Sue or Folsom Prison Blues you could be forgiven for thinking you were sitting in a smoky bar or perhaps a hardened criminal establishment, witnessing the real man work his magic.
The Man in Black is a more than a tribute to Cash; through music, it reveals the entire story of his wild life.

I saw it in Melbourne - it was fantastic! I wasn't really a fan of Johnny Cash before I saw this, but I am now.

Can't deny anybody a living I suppose, shame you have to have an angle or gimmick to appeal to the mainstream...
