The Domain

events|the%20domain
East of the city, linking the Royal Botanic Gardens and Hyde Park, are four hectares which, back in the colony day, were set aside as “the government domain”. Today the Domain is a place for sport, entertainment and recreation – that’s code for loud people.

Editorial

Proudly remaining an open space, the Domain absolutely comes alive in summer, including being the location for concerts that draw crowds of up to 100,000 people, using the part of the Domain that lies between the Art Gallery and the state Parliament. The Domain was once a favourite place for promenading on a Sunday afternoon and today not much has changed, so look out for Rusty Crowe working up a sweat on the jogging track when he's in town. One of the best places to enjoy a picnic with an awesome view is down at Mrs Macquarie's Chair and if you're after a cultural fix, The Art Gallery of NSW should do the trick. The Domain gets crowded in good weather, both day and night, but sometimes a random Frisbee in the head is a great way to meet new people.
