The Danger Mouse Soul
Editorial
The project was a hotly anticipated collaboration featuring music composed by Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse, with contributions from guest singers like Pixies's Frank Black, Julian Casablancas, Iggy Pop and Jason Lytle among others on each song. And as if that wasn't enough reason to see it on every music buff's wish list, it was to accompany a book of photos from the legendary director David Lynch. After a legal dispute between Danger Mouse and EMI, the 2009 album was instead released as the book, blank CDs and a saying, "For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will." At the same time, the music between Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse was accidentally leaked onto the Internet. Many took it as a blessing from Danger Mouse and co. and illegally downloaded the music.
But if anyone actually bought a copy of the blank album, please don't pawn it. Danger Mouse was named Best Producer of the Decade by Paste Magazine, and has won two out of 11 Grammy nominations. He's also been the producer behind some of the biggest acts around, including Gorillaz and Beck. So take it from us that your CD-R is definitely a collectable.
