One of those rare festivals that swallows up a whole city once every year, the Tamworth Country Music Festival has long since put the NSW regional centre of Tamworth on the map. The place hosts live music year-round, but everything explodes each January with this week-plus fest. So much so that Tamworth’s population of around 50,000 is actually matched in visitors during that period. And the city makes no bones about playing up the decades-running event: there’s a wax museum devoted to country music and the 12-meter-high Big Golden Guitar. With all that, it’s a destination no matter who plays.
