Featuring an exceptional program of theatre, dance, music and film by artists from all over the world, the Sydney Festival will light up the city this summer, from Campbelltown to Circular Quay.
Sydney's annual art orgy kicks off with the free outdoor program of Festival First Night - headlined this year by legendary country singer Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys in The Domain - and continues over the following 22 days with a cavalcade of performances, exhibitions, concerts and more.
From supernatural classics like Universal's 1931 film Dracula (with an evocative new score performed live by composer Philip Glass and the famous Kronos Quartet) to the Australian stage debut of John Malkovich in The Giacomo Variations, a study of Casanova, the world's greatest lover, in his twilight years, there is something for every taste - and every budget - at the festival this year.
Live music fans won't want to miss folk-pop singer Sufjan Stevens (pictured) at the Sydney Opera House, or North London blues-rock siblings Kitty, Daisy and Lewis at The Famous Spiegeltent. Cabaret aficionados should be sure to see Misanthropology, the brand new show from the wickedly funny (and Helpmann Award-winning) comedian, composer and performer Eddie Perfect; while if dance is your thing, the world-renowned Sydney Dance Company will be coming to a Parramatta and Penrith park near you.
For the time-poor, there's the About an Hour program, where every show is priced for just $30 and runs for - you guessed it - about an hour; and families are catered for with a range of great shows, including the ingenious and imaginative The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer.
Pick up a program or start browsing online, but don't delay!
