Royal Queensland Wine Show Awards Dinner
Editorial
Each year, thousands of nervous wine makers from across the nation enter into the esteemed Royal Queensland Wine Show. This is a big deal – the very first of these wine contests took place in 1876.
This year, judges will have to pick winners from a pool of more than 3000 entries from over 200 wineries nationwide. And, after five days of careful deliberation (from Sunday, 5 to Thursday, 9 July), they will reveal their decision at the distinguished Royal Queensland Wine Show Awards Dinner.
Held in the Coffee Club Auditorium at the RNA Showgrounds (which are themselves a part of the 133 year tradition) on Thursday, 9 July, the dinner is a chance to toast the nation’s best over a four-course meal that will feature prize-winning branded beef and cheese from the Royal Queensland Show, as well as the gold medal-winning wines –individually selected by the chief judge.
And, while inevitably the best in the wine industry will be there (no doubt twisting their napkins and drumming their fingers in anticipation), the event is also open to those who prefer to drink wine, rather than make it. The privilege of brushing shoulders with the creme de la creme will cost you $125 per person or $1,150 for a table of 10.
