Rob Thomas is a radio favourite and one of the most bankable singers in contemporary pop.

Editorial

Rob Thomas has sold an awful lot of records. As lead singer of Matchbox 20, solo artist and gun for hire, he's topped charts internationally and sold out concerts throughout the world. His first solo album, 2005's Something to Be, went straight to number one in US charts and produced hits like Lonely No More, This is How a Heart Breaks and Ever the Same. His follow-up, the recently released, Cradlesong, looks set to follow suit.

Led by the chart-topping first single, Her Diamonds, Thomas's second album has proven he's also a viable solo concern. Okay, so he's never been the most underground or indie acts, but when it comes to FM radio and selling records, the guy can't be touched. And as he recently explained, the songs are going to come regardless of sales and record label deals. "The reason I do what I do is because I have all these songs that are always building up in my head, so it's really cathartic to get a load of them out into the world and start over again. And the solo career is a really important way for me to do that."

Back in Australia to perform songs from his new album and his back catalogue (including some Matchbox 20 favourites), Thomas proves he's one of the most bankable solo musicians around.
