Cradlesong is another reliable, if predictable, addition to the Rob Thomas canon.

Release date: 4 July 2009 (Warner)
Mr Matchbox 20 is back. And he's brought his bag of MOR pop/rock with him. Huzzah! No, we're not trying to be dismissive; it's just that the new Rob Thomas records sounds EXACTLY like you'd expect. That's what seems to happen when you sell a few million copies of your previous effort. Nobody is looking for, or willing, you to reinvent the wheel.

In that regard, Cradlesong is an unbridled success. Thomas has a great voice and 14 expertly crafted pop songs to back it up. It's all impeccably polished, infinitely polite and heading to a radio near you. Mind you, whether you can distinguish between the songs on offer comes down to how much pop you listen to. It's pretty much some variation on love, lust and heartbreak on any given track. Sure, the guitar chords might change a little, but not much. Indeed, if this album was a dinner guest, you might well forget they were in attendance, the whole thing is so unobtrusive. Whether that's what you want in your music is another matter. Listeners who appreciate breakfast radio and laugh at the jokes will certainly dig this.

What qualifies you Mikolai to evaluate Cradlesong as pedestrian or more aptly the pedestrian you don't see? Let me guess a degree from the conservatorium? you attended a concert once? I know music is a very subjective and all artistd are at society's mercy for scrutiny as are album reviewers. You may not enjoy the cradlesong album, that's personal, but as for all sounding the same? that's musical - and you are wrong! What subject matter should Rob Thomas try to write about to get your nod? Maybe he could write about how he saw a UFO but nobody believed him? Ronnie Saras :)
