Inspired by late night radio's lonely hearts club, Josh Earl discovers that all you need is love – and decent reception.

After the success of his previous Melbourne International Comedy Festival show, a celebration of The Australian Women's Weekly Children's Cake Book, the distinctly adorable Josh Earl tackles another institution: MIX 101.1 FM's 9pm-midnight radio show Love Song Dedications.

Armed with a transistor radio, a guitar, some clever pre-recorded interludes and a winning smile, Earl tackles the creepy lyrics of R. Kelly, explores the public declarations found in the pages of MX, and generally celebrates love in all its forms.

The result is a show that's sweet but slight, with Earl's shining wit and engaging delivery let down by his lacklustre singing. If he'd ditch the guitar and stick to storytelling, the result would be much more consistent.
