Review: Hannah Gadsby - Mrs Chuckles

Dry, droll and delightfully funny, the laconic Hannah Gadsby is perfect for those of us who like our comedy understated.

Hannah Gadsby is not the sort of comedian to burst on to the stage, guns blazing. She's more of a stroller, armed with spud guns that fire short, controlled bursts of pithy humour, whether she's discoursing about biscuits, bondage, or high school reunions.

Covering a diverse range of topics, ranging from her Tasmanian origins and the difficulties of social interaction through to the importance of last words and the value of getting them right, Gadsby eases herself into her show as if it were a hot bath. Tentative at first, once she's relaxed the laughter really kicks in.

Awkward, appealing and disarmingly charming, Hannah Gadsby is a national treasure. Only, like, not the sort that should be buried on a desert island.
