Retro Rage

Like a cosy Sunday morning, curled up on the sofa, Retro Rage is the only way to reminisce.

Editorial

Release date: 20 June 2009 (Universal)
Back in ancient times (aka the '90s), there was no Youtube, file sharing or anything like that. Hell, pre-1995 the internet didn't really exist. If you wanted to see a particular videoclip in those dark days you're only real choice was watching Rage and hoping for the best. While the weekly Top 50 countdown on Rage was fine for catching up on the latest hits, seeing anything older was a bit trickier. Indeed, the only way you could watch classic videoclips was to wait until you're favourite act was guest programming and hope they dropped in what you wanted to see. Usually, you'd set the VCR (remember those?) to long-play around 1am and then watch the whole thing the following morning to see what treasures you had amassed. Good times ...

The new Retro Rage compilation is sort of like that Sunday morning, long-play VCR tape feeling, i.e. a mix of favourites, surprises, duds and tracks you've never heard before. The one thing that draws them all together is the fact they all got regular play from guest programmers back in the day, and continue to do so today. Want some examples? Try, David Bowie (Modern Love), De La Soul (Eye Know, Divinyls (Science Fiction), Adam and the Ants (Stand And Deliver) and the ultimate retro track, Soft Cell's Tainted Love. If you want a Rage-style trek down memory lane, this release does the job nicely.
