Q-Dance
Editorial
Q-Dance is the Netherlands's biggest hard-dance party. And since the Netherlands are pretty much the world's hard-dance epicentre, that pretty much makes Q-Dance the last word in phat pants, hard trance and ridiculous DJ names. Celebrating 10 years in the industry, the Dutch party promoters are now back in Australia with a full entourage of DJs for their 2009 arena spectacular.
Q-Dance events are all about over the top production and equally over the top music. It's not particularly subtle or clever, but it works a treat. The tens of thousands of Dutch kids that head out to weekly events certainly seem to like it. As does the huge global audience that has sprung up in recent years. The mainstream music media may ignore Dutch hardcore, but the genre doesn't need magazines like Mixmag to sell records or pack out stadiums.
While Q-Dance have a full contingent of DJs out this way for the 2009 tour, the biggest name on the list is DJ Isaac. Starting out as a remixer for Dutch radio stations, he released his first 12" in 1995. Two years later he scored a breakthrough hit with Face Down Ass Up. Since then, he's remixed the biggest names in European hard dance and headlined plenty of arena spectacles. If hard dance is your shtick, you'll know he's sort of a big deal.
