Pulse Radio Yacht Club
Editorial
Don't let the name mislead you. It's not really a yacht. More like a two-level luxury cruiser. A cruiser that's been set adrift on Sydney harbour with DJs from one of the world's best dance music labels riding shotgun. A proper summer party, like.
Dirtybird Records are looking after the main floor and they certainly know a thing or two about partying. Renowned for fusing hip-hop, Detroit booty and electronica, the label has built up an international following in a pretty short space of time. Of course, it helps that Claude Vonstroke is the man behind the label. What began as a joke name and a booking at a friend's party has snowballed into an international DJ career, a record label and an award winning debut album, Beware of the Bird.
And then you've got guys like Christian Martin. First getting involved in southern California's club scene in the mid ?90s, he's since hooked up with Vonstroke and gotten busy flying between DJ residencies in San Francisco and New York. With the UK's Gucci Soundsystem and Unabombers also out this way for the party, and the locals playing disco house up on the top deck, this looks like one of the boat cruises of the summer.
