i think it is quiet pathetic that the organizers can't tell you more about the products and the actual setup

Hard to find web site, its not art, no advertising get real and spend some of the take.

There were no drink vouchers and the drinks were more than a $1.00, mostly $7-00. There were very few beer tents and no micro-beer tents, mainly commercial beers. Overall after paying my $20-00 I thought it was extremely poor, the wine festival at the Convention Centre is much better in comparison.

What a waste of time and money , it was a joke , no one in there right mind could call that a festival , the $1 beer vouchers was a lie , more like $10 for a plastic cups worth , i lasted for an hour ,40 mins of which i spent queueing for 2 beers and there were more people leaving than arriving and they had only been open for 2 hours. In contrast the Lucky Shag up the road was doing a roaring trade , it was cheaper and a lot more festive . DONT GO!!!!!

This event is such a scam. No free samples. $10 for 450ml of beer. Only a couple to choose from and all of them can be purchased locally if you know where to look. Please don't waste your time or money.

The worst example of a beer festival I have ever experienced. One hour wait to get inside, no complimentary beer tastings included in the $20 entry free, no $1 tasting vouchers available(we asked 7 different people that were working there and none of them had a clue)..only 475ml beers at $9 a pop which you have to queue for 1 hour to get, no new international beers to taste which is promised on website, security staff that cannot give you basic information like where are toilets or where particliuar stands are. And to top it off, did I mention the queues?? If you think I am exaggerating, please visit Fenians pub which is opposite the Sheraton down the road and see how many people have left the piss poor excuse for a beer festival and have decided to pay for the same beer but 3 dollars cheaper in a pint glass, in smaller queues with air conditioning. Honestly, it has been 6 hours since I left there and I'm still furious at the organisers. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO YOUR LOCAL!!
paul
January 11, 2009
there were 4 beers on offer at $7-10 each...what was the $20.00 entrance for??? ..hardly a "multitude of different beers"
Mick
January 11, 2009
What a waste of time. $20 entry fee which gets you in after a 30min wait in the line (with a ticket) only to find there are NO $1 tastings and beer is more expensive than in all of the local pubs. $8 per pint at the Lucky Shag - up to $10 a plastic cup (445ml) at the festival after paying to get in!!! What a rip off !!
Joe

Like most of Perth's events this is run by clowns. Go to your local pub instead or donate the $20 to charity.

went to this event today.DONT BOTHER,ITS NOW CALLED THE LINE UP EVENT,THE WORST ORGANIZED EVENT I HAVE EVA BEEN TO,WE SPENT THE WHOLE DAY LINING UP FOR BEER AT $10 A CUP? THOUGHT IT WAS A TASTING EVENT,NO!RIP OFF NEVER AGAIN.THE ONLY POSITIVE WERE THE LIVE BANDS!WITHOUT THERE CLASS EVERYBODY WOULD HAVE STARTED A RIOT!

Went today, the vibe and opinions from those coming out as i was waiting to get in was not to bother. Arrived at 3.30pm, line a mile long, people coming past saying don't bother. $25 to get in the gate then $10 dor a beer once in. only two places to get a beer from, and the lines were longer inside than they were outside, could see that from were we where. Sideshow alley was apparently hugely over priced. And once you in you in, if you had to leave for any issue you had to line up to get in, but you had to buy another ticket, that is in big letters at the gate.

January 11, 2009
To the people wanting to go to this today (Sunday) don't bother, its a utter joke, 40 mins to line up, pay $20 then 40 mins to line up, pay over full price for a beer. Fail.
Bob
January 11, 2009
I DO NOT recommend this. We went yesterday at 3pm until 4.45pm and left because it was so bad. If you fancy spending 45 mins in a queue for one type/brand of beer tat is overpriced and available at your local or prob the Belgian pub in town then go ahead. THERE ARE NO DRINKS I COULD FIND AVAILABLE FOR $1.00. IT WAS $7 FOR A BOTTLE AND $8 FOR 475ML APPROX. THE ENTRY FEE GETS YOU NO DISCOUNT ON THE BEER!
Clint

"All bases are well and truly covered in the festival" you better eat thoes bloody words. what a big dissapointment, oh hey.. lets make the place so fkn small, that only 500 people fit in there, with no propper drinking areas, like tents with huge tables. NOOOO that would be too easy. organisers on this one made a monumental cockup.
Paul
January 11, 2009
What a joke. I went yesterday (Saturday). The selection of beers was pathetic and the queues to get a drink were over 100m long. Who ever organised this should look at doing something else in life!
Matthew
January 11, 2009
This was a complete waste of time and money on Saturday. The beers were expensive and the range was sad, I could have gone to any bar in Perth and found the same beers. There were only 4 beer tents and the lines were a good 30 min long.
Tiffany
January 11, 2009
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! The multitude of different beers equates to a handful of standard beers for $10 a pop, after waiting in a line for 45 minutes in the hot sun to get one. SOOOO NOT WORTH IT. Probably the worst organised event I have ever been to.
Pauline
January 11, 2009
IT was a joke, 4 lousy tents, all beers you can buy at the bottle shop, no tastings anywhere, and $10 a pint once you got to the front of the loooooooooooooong cue

The Festival was a rip off..! $25 to get in at gate (When is says 20 buck on this site) and 10 bucks a pint!! What a joke, what did we pay 25 bucks for.. May as well go to the pub.. Which is what we did in the end. It cost us 25 dollars, but we managed to turna way about 40 ppl from paying.. Freo festival kicked its arse.. DO NOT GO EVER!!

The organisers should have looked up the meaning of the word festival. Rocking up at the venue on Saturday, we had to guess which queue to purchase the tickets. There's no signage and no staff until we were 50 metres from the kiosk. We'd also noticed a stream of people leaving the festival unhappy and peeved. You'd think that you'd get a wee glass of beer to sample. Wishful thinking. You'd think that there'd be $1 tastings. Again, wishful thinking. Once we'd passed through the gates, we had to line up again (long, ever so long queues) for an icy cold one. More grumbling patrons. It's nice to sit undercover and enjoy the company of others BUT there's no festival vibe. Fine beers were on tap but so expensive. It's a joke to pay $25 and get hit in the hip pocket again and again. We left at 7.30 pm with sunburn and a lingering memory that it's the worst beer festival we've ever experienced. It's not a festival, it's a beer meet in the middle of a sun-drenched park.

this event was extremely over priced u pay $25 at the gate then pay $7 upwards for a beer u supposedly cannot get in perth, i could have gone to the paddington ale house who boast over 150 different beers from all over the world and payed much less for the beer without an entry fee and while sitting in airconditioning with free live entertainment, from the advertising I thought I understood that it was supposed to be like a promotional festival for international brewing companies to get their beers out there for people to try and buy, not just a festival for drunks to buy drinks higher than northbridge prices. I don't believe it will have too much success next time around

What an absolute joke!!! The City of Perth should be embarressed for even promoting this event and should offer to refund anyone that went top the event. We pre bought tickets and stayed for a bout 30mins, the time it took to line up for a beer and not even get 1/2 way to the front of the line. We went home bought a carton of quality German beer(not avialable at the event), paid $90 bucks for it and it was 1000 times better that staying.

A Beer Festival is an organised event during which a variety of beers (and often other alcoholic drinks) are available for tasting and purchase......Thanks wikipedia please explain that to the organisors of the Perth Beer Festival. I travelled 2 hours from Bunbury for what!!! This was the worst organised event (sorry I cant call it that...crowding of people) I have ever been to. No signage, no organisation, 7 beers which I can guarantee we have all had before and no tastings!!! That was embarrassing as a aussie event for beer drinking. Promoters and organisors apart from you laughing all the way to the bank, you should be ashamed, I would be.

What a rip off!!! $25 entry fee, no $1 tastings as advertised and then you paid more for a beer than you would in a nightclub. The selection of beer was abismal and half teh kegs were empty, warm or flat! Worst run event I have been to in a very long time.

What a rip off. Small selection of beers, 20 bucks entrance for what??? en 10 bucks for a beer.

The only good thing I felt after attending this non event was being able to turn people away - those poor souls standing in the boiling sun unaware of the further queues awaiting them! There is no advantage to ripping the Perth public off like this - word of mouth was obvious by the number of people on their phones telling their mates not to bother.
Liz
January 12, 2009
This is the worst event that i have ever attended. Had pre-ordered my tickets, so went in and then left straight away due to not wanting to get ripped-off any further. Total waste of time and money. Hope it is not organised again for next year.

I organised a large group of friends to go and tickets were purchased as Christmas presents. This was the biggest let down, disappointing, frustrating day I have ever had the misfortune to attend!! WILL NOT BE DOING THAT AGAIN!! The organisers obviously didn???t have a clue as to what they were doing!! Epic Fail!!!!

Surely this was a joke festival and the real beer festival will be on next weeK!!! I felt embarrassed for getting my friends to come along to this - organiser should be ashamed of their lack of planning. In the words of Derryn Hinch - SHAME SHAME SHAME

I'm with everyone else here - the PIBF was rubbish! Long lines to get in, long lines to get a drink while getting burnt to a crisp, my group of 6 and I had already bought a ticket so had to at least have one drink, and that was all we bothered about. Acos Events should give up their day job!

Myself and my friends were very disappointed about the Beer festival, the price, the long queues and entertainment which was in poor taste. (repeating a Nickleback album to girls in bikinis to Little Miss Sunshines) Making a Beer Festival a family event is wrong. Beer Festival should be, what I experienced in Melbourne, $20-$30 ticket which covers 3-4 hours of beer tasting from around the world. I hope it changes next year.

This event was a total rip off. I woulda been better off throwing my $25 in the river and then going to the pub, it still would of been cheaper and a lot less painfull getting a beer. Seriously the organisers of this event must be a bunch of tea totallers if they think that is a beer festival. Where were all the tastings and the huge variety of international beers that were promised? 9 beer stalls is not a beer festival of any kind, let alone an international one (what a joke). I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

What a joke! Pay $ 20 entry fee (for what), then queue up for bear (from a bottle!), served in a plastic cup which you then drink while sitting on the lawn. What happened to the word "beerfestival"? Havn't the organisers (no very rich people) seen the move? Beer steins, tents, music and NO ENTRY FEES! Use the money well and go on a fact finding mission to Germany, I would say to the organisers. Won't see me there again!!!

what a total waste of money and time, cost way too much way too long queues, as i went saturday i saved my sister at least from wasting anymore more money she bought tickets on net for the sunday but never went, after waiting to pick up tickets i had bought on the net then re queing to get through the gates, only to wait in slushy queue to be told they only had one flavour ready at 4pm, waiting in other massive queues for a beer, and then the slushy man selling cordial at 5.30, and still wanting to charge $10!! i hope all the money these vendors would have made gets taken by the tax man

Probably the worst organised event ever. How it got council approval is a complete mystery. We left and went to the Belgian Beer Cafe up the road instead to get a beer.

i can't believe what a rip off this event was. The people who organised it are laughing all the way to the bank. After charging $25 entry fee they figured people would stay and pay the rediculous prices for common beers like becks and heineken which you can get for 2/3 the price in any pub. Where were the $1 beer tastings as advertised? No member of staff on site even heard about them, or spoke english for that matter. The ques to buy the overpriced beers were also a joke.
steve
January 14, 2009
Totally crap!! Worst festival I've ever been to. This is what $25 got me: 1hr wait to get in; "huge selection of 7 international beers"- these included becks, heineken, coopers, james boag + 3 others; no $1 tastings as advertised; $10 475ml plastic cups of heineken instead of tastings; everything overpriced by at least 30%; 30min lines to get beers; whole area no bigger then 250/250 metres. I want my money back!

I'd have to agree with all the bad below. I keep searching thinking there is another beer festival coming soon...they killed it in Perth who's going to the next one. We left, we warned people as we were leaving as well not to waste money, some listened and followed us to the pub. Beer was cheaper and colder there, so was the air con!!!! The biggest let down of all time.
Ryan

I asked the event organisers over a month before the event to divulge the beer list and also warned them that the general view on beer forums I was reading was to stay away as it was looking like a spring-in-the-valley style binge fest, not a beer fest. They got back to me 3 days before the event when the beer 'list' was finally put on the website and told me to check it out for myself. Glad I opted out! Utter joke!

Like most things in Perth, will we pay to much for the beer? Or should I just go and pay $18 a pint at some Pub in Oxford st???
